Three Myths About New York Publishers

Posted by admin | Publishing | Thursday 26 August 2010 1:46 pm

As I travel the country speaking to writer’s groups in workshops and seminars, I’m struck by the amount of misinformation that is floating around. Having spent 25-years working for two of the largest publishers in the world, I thought it would be important to set the record straight and write about three of the most common myths.

It’s not about who published your book, but will it make money

First, there seems to be this impression that if an author publishes with a print-on-demand company – or god forbid self-publish their own manuscript – the big publishers will never be interested in their book. This is wrong! The fact is that the biggest companies in the world are focused on making money. If they discover a title they feel has potential to gain widespread distribution and sell lots of copies, they don’t care who published it, they want it. The big publishers rarely look at who published what, for them, it’s about dollars and if they feel your writing has the potential, they’ll publish it.

Animals As Pets – A Healthy Choice

Posted by admin | Animation | Wednesday 25 August 2010 10:43 am

Animals as pets, seems a silly notion to me. The only animals I’ve really kept as pets would be fish. And many animal lovers who have pets, would probably disagree with me as to the classification of fish as pets. Whatever. While I enjoy other peoples animal pets, I’m sure none of them would classify me as an animal lover. A recent turn of events may however have a long term effect on my relationship with animals. Having recently caved to our children’s long term lobbying efforts to have a family dog as a pet, it appears that I will be sharing my home with an animal of the non-aquatic variety very soon.

Stress Out The Dogs

The thought of sharing my domicile with an animal has me a little stressed out. However, that should be short lived, as according to many experts living with an animal is supposed to help relieve stress in humans. Not exactly sure why that is. Perhaps having a creature you can speak your mind to, that has no recourse but to agree with you? Sometimes us human animals just need someone to listen, and agree with everything we say. Maybe the constant reminder of an animal who has no control over what they eat, where they sleep, how they play, and what goofy clothes they wear, makes people realize that maybe things aren’t so bad for them. Could be worse, you could be a dog.

With most of the world getting wary of the swine flu outbreak, one can just wonder if it is only a matter of time before they too can be infected by the H1N1 strain of the swine influenza virus.

Recent reports have indicated that locations as remote as China, Mexico, Colombia and New Zealand have either had confirmed cases of the swine flu or are already affected by the looming threat of the virus. In the United States, cases of H1N1 flu virus outbreaks have been reported in the state of Wisconsin, while the state of Minnesota is awaiting for confirmation of suspected cases.

This is not the first time an influenza scare has taken a grip of global awareness. A few years back, the world faced the threat posed by the avian influenza virus or the H5N1 flu strain. In much the same way, the swine flu has put people in a state of awareness and fear of catching the virus. However, the same preventive measures used against the avian flu can be used in preventing the spread of H1N1 virus.

Aside from the obvious use of vaccines against the swine flu virus, health experts have recommended practical methods such as the washing of hands with soap and water in preventing the spread of the virus.

In the book ‘Health Lifelong Project: With Healthy Recipes, Beauty Secrets, and More’, author Marina Marcetic presents several preventative measures that solves health problems with natural cures. She shares her knowledge of natural products and cures that were collected from her education and experiences around the world.
